We are looking for a driven Senior System/Project Engineer with an electrical bias to join our innovative and international team.

About Thorizon

At Thorizon, we’re a passionate and rapidly growing team of 45 in Amsterdam and Lyon, all working together to develop a new nuclear power solution. We design and create frontier technology for Molten Salt Reactors (MSR).

Your mission

As a senior project engineer, you’ll be instructing, supervising, coordinating the engineering activities of the project(s) in line with the projects safety, licensing, cost and quality requirements. You’ll be the electrical technical lead of multiple nuclear systems (including safety class 1) and so will be responsible for preparing specifications, developing systems from low design maturity, reviewing sub-contractor designs and ensuring that your scopes are progressed in accordance with requirements at all business levels. In your role, you will ensure the validity of technical solutions, the delivery of robust design and safety justification, and you’ll input to relevant chapters of the Safety Assessment Report licensing process. Being able to manage parallel workloads is a must.

You will be given unique exposure to diverse nuclear systems. You will be given significant responsibility for the delivery of these systems and you’ll manage this delivery by interfacing well with internal and external stakeholders. You will play a crucial role in establishing the company’s success. This role is based in Lyon, France.


In this role you will:

  • Develop and manage design requirements
  • Functional interface development and management
  • Equipment sizing and specification
  • Identify and communicate technical and business risks
  • Manage stakeholders (internal and external)
  • Co-ordinate engineering activities for your system(s).
  • Generate design documentation
  • Control design changes and subsequent scope creep.
  • Participate and contribute to multi
  • Participate in the system design of various nuclear systems for Thorizon, such as a refueling machine, a dry storage systems, a Cartridge filling system or a Cartridge draining system.
  • Liaise effectively with sub-contractors, partners and colleagues to ensure the timely delivery of work.
  • Challenge the team when you foresee potential issues and motivate them to be proactive and constructive to find solutions, and proactively reach out for help

Job requirements

About you:

  • You have a degree in electrical engineering or can demonstrate a similar level of competence.
  • You have strong engineering principles.
  • You have at least 5 years of experience managing an expert team in an innovative and multidisciplinary technology development environment
  • Experience with System’s engineering approaches are a plus
  • Previous knowledge in the nuclear sector is advantageous although demonstratable experience in similar highly regulated, high safety sectors will be considered.
  • Experience in nuclear systems control, command and power systems is advantageous especially related to nuclear handling systems, nuclear storage systems and building services.
  • You have strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with drive for quality and accuracy.
  • You get inspired by an organisation with a large variety of people, with different experiences and background, and have the ability to adjust your management style depending on situation and the people involved.
  • You are open and communicative, sharing your observations and expectations. Clear is kind.
  • You are an excellent communicator in English (working daily language), both spoken and written
