Your mission
Are you passionate about designing cutting-edge mechanical systems and solving complex engineering challenges? Do you get energized by innovation, and transforming ideas into tangible solutions? Are you a teambuilder that can get the most out of technical experts and specialists, in an innovative and multidisciplinary development environment?
You will be responsible for all activities related to structural integrity in Thorizon’s reactor design, safety case and validation. You will manage a growing team of junior, medior, senior and external mechanical experts, to contribute with their expertise to projects defined by system design leads. You secure the quality of the work and the validation of results, including experimental efforts that could be required.
You can manage and prioritize from a transverse overview of the mechanical discipline in all projects and ensure seamless integration of other disciplines in analyses relatd to structural integrity.
Furthermore, you will drive initiatives for continuous improvement, quality assurance, validation and participation in external networks to stay at the forefront of industry developments. You get the unique opportunity to develop your ideas, explore various aspects of mechanical engineering, how to build and manage an effective expert team, and play a crucial role in establishing the company’s success. This role is based in Amsterdam, Netherlands or in Lyon, France.
In this role you will:
- Build and manage the Thorizon structural integrity engineering team, making the experts grow to the max of their potential.
- Make your team members contribute effectively to the design driven projects, performing design and safety analyses, using computational tools, codes & standards and practical know-how in the mechanical field.
- Secure the quality of the work delivered, including definition and executing of efforts required for validation and qualification
- Drive the analytical work in the team to contribute to effective realisation, fostering a practical and hands-on mentality
- Integrate your team with the project organisation, and with the other functional teams in the disciplines thermalhydraulics, core physics and chemistry.
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in methodologies, codes & standards,tools and approaches for structural integrity.
- Support team members’ professional development by identifying and providing opportunities for training and growth
- Challenge the team when you foresee potential issues and motivate them to be proactive and constructive to find solutions, and proactively reach out for help
Job requirements
About you:
- You have a Master's degree in mechanical engineering and a background in structural integrity related technical project execution.
- You have at least 5 years of experience managing an expert team in an innovative and multidisciplinary technology development environment
- Experience with System’s engineering approaches are a plus
- You have good knowledge of structural and (thermo)mechanical analyses methods, design by rules and quality assurance, which you combine with a practical approach, supporting realisation.
- Previous experience in the nuclear sector is not required, but interest in the energy and nuclear field, and in multidisciplinary complexity and innovation is essential
- Experience in projects including pressure vessels, pipings, large components, mechanical handling is a plus
- You have strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with drive for quality and accuracy.
- You get inspired by an organisation with a large variety of people, with different experiences and background, and have the ability to adjust your management style depending on situation and the people involved.
- You are open and communicative, sharing your observations and expectations. Clear is kind.
- You are an excellent communicator in English (working daily language), both spoken and written
- You are a team player, and as such can build a team of teamplayers
- You solve problems creatively and know when and how to involve other team members
- You like working in an agile manner and are comfortable with the fast-moving pace of a technological scale-up
